Terms and Conditions

MatricMentorSA is an independently owned and operated educational platform. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, certified by, or in any way officially connected with South Africa's Department of Basic Education ("DBE"), Umalusi, any provincial education department, or any other government body.

References on the Service to "CAPS" (the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement), "NSC" (National Senior Certificate), "matric", grade levels, subjects, or exam terminology are used only in their ordinary, descriptive sense — to explain what our content covers — and do not imply any partnership, licence, sponsorship, or endorsement by the DBE or any other authority. Any such names, marks, or terms that belong to the South African government or its departments remain their property.

Every lesson video, script, practice question, and explanation on the Service is independently created by MatricMentorSA. Where a topic is informed by the structure, style, or difficulty of official DBE past examination papers and marking guidelines, we do this by studying the publicly available method and pattern of those materials to build original scenarios, numbers, and wording of our own — we do not copy, reproduce, republish, or distribute any DBE examination paper, memorandum, or other DBE-copyrighted material verbatim, in full or in substantial part, whether on the Service, in our videos, or anywhere else.

If you want to access an official DBE past exam paper or memorandum, you can find these directly on the Department of Basic Education's own website or another source authorised by the DBE. Any such official material remains the copyrighted property of the South African government, and your use of it is governed by the DBE's own terms, not ours.

If you believe that any content on the Service infringes a copyright you hold, including a DBE copyright, please contact us at legal@matricmentorsa.co.za with enough detail to identify the material, and we will investigate and, where appropriate, remove or correct it promptly.

MatricMentorSA is a supplementary study aid. It is intended to help you understand and practise the CAPS syllabus alongside — not instead of — attending school, following your teacher's guidance, and preparing through your school's own curriculum requirements. We do not guarantee any particular mark, grade, examination result, or admission outcome from using the Service, and we are not responsible for how your school, the DBE, Umalusi, or any institution grades or evaluates you.

Lesson scripts, practice-question templates, and explanations are produced with the assistance of AI tools, grounded in the CAPS curriculum and, for Grade 12 numeric topics, real DBE marking guidelines, then independently re-checked by a separate verification pass before publication. Despite this process, we cannot guarantee that every piece of content is free of error at all times. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us at support@matricmentorsa.co.za — you should always cross-check anything critical to your exam preparation against your teacher and official DBE materials.

The Service is intended for learners studying the South African CAPS curriculum, and for parents, guardians, and educators supporting them. If you are under 18, you may only use the Service with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. By registering an account, you confirm that either you are 18 or older, or a parent or legal guardian has given permission for you to use the Service and has reviewed these Terms.

You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us immediately at support@matricmentorsa.co.za if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

Free content

Our lesson videos are, and will remain, free to watch on YouTube, with no account required.

Paid subscription

Full access to unlimited practice questions, adaptive difficulty, and mock exams is offered as a paid subscription (currently advertised at R59/month, subject to change). Where a subscription is active:

• Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until you cancel
• You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period, and we do not charge further after that
• We may change our pricing with reasonable advance notice; continuing to use a paid subscription after a price change takes effect means you accept the new price
• Payments are processed by a licensed third-party payment gateway; we do not store your full card details

Refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis in line with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, where applicable. If you believe you were charged in error, contact support@matricmentorsa.co.za.

When using the Service, you agree not to:

• Scrape, copy, systematically download, or redistribute our lesson content, questions, or explanations
• Share your paid account credentials with anyone outside your household, or resell access to the Service
• Attempt to circumvent any paywall, access control, or security measure
• Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm another person
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the underlying question-generation methods or source code of the Service
• Use any automated system (bot, scraper) to access the Service other than a standard web browser

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section.

Except for the third-party materials described above, all content on the Service — including videos, scripts, illustrations, practice questions and their explanations, question templates, software, and the MatricMentorSA name and logo — is owned by KIESSLIM (PTY) LTD or our licensors and is protected by South African and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may use it for your own personal, non-commercial study only. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from it without our prior written permission.

Our free videos are hosted on YouTube, and our community updates are shared through WhatsApp. Your use of those platforms is additionally governed by YouTube's and WhatsApp/Meta's own terms of service, which we do not control and are not responsible for.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, KIESSLIM (PTY) LTD and its directors, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage — including loss of an examination result, loss of data, or loss of opportunity — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for gross negligence or fraud.

You agree to indemnify and hold KIESSLIM (PTY) LTD harmless against any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, misused the Service, or where required by law. You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time by contacting support@matricmentorsa.co.za.

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example as new features like paid subscriptions and exam mode become generally available. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
